Experience the Sidney Street Market
Thursday evening in Sidney, during the Summer months , brings crowds of all ages out to enjoy the home town feel of the Street Market with Vendors from all over the Island bringing a selection of items ranging from farm produce to hand crafted stained glass.
The aroma in the air fills you senses from the fresh salt water lapping in the background to the lavender softly filling the air as bushels walk past you. Walking from block to block continuously being aroused with scents that set mouths watering, the donuts being baked up the street the fudge from a nearby stand then a couple of booths up, fresh baked salmon burgers are being handed out.
Local artist displaying their crafts are everywhere from pottery to welded sculptors, stained glass to jewelry and native carvings. Scooters and baby strollers easily fit in this flat terrain as everyone enjoys the casual evening in the mid summer sun.
Tents dot the sides of the streets as far as your eyes can see, your ears fill will the soft sounds of different musicians spread out along your walk, children dancing to the beat, couples holding hands, the atmosphere brings back the sense of belonging, in a community that cares.
Local artists are signing books, the backdrop for the Market is filled with historical buildings preserved by the town, tenants and community. Bicycles, backpacks, diaper bags, cameras, everyone feels welcome to come and enjoy the friendly atmosphere, camaraderie and beauty that Sidney holds.
Community spirit holds tight reins on the day as all too soon evening approaches, the streets begin to empty out, tents begin to collapse, the many local coffee shops begin to fill and Sidney looks forward to another quiet day on the Island. |
