Welcome to the Galiano Room

Galiano Island was discovered in 1792 by the Spanish explorer, Dionisio Galiano, who sailed these waters in his vessel, the Sutil. At 30 kilometers or 19 miles in length, Galiano is the second largest of the southern Gulf Islands; only its neighbour to the west, Salt Spring Island, is larger. Most people settled on the southern end of Galiano, where much of the popula-tion is still found today. In the early days, it was common for the residents of Galiano to row across the torturous Active Pass to Mayne Island for their mail, a church service or even to take a drink at the bustling Springwater Lodge on Miners Bay.

Today walk-ers, hikers and cyclists can enjoy the Island’s quiet country roads and trails that lead to amazing ridges and view points. Spectacular sculpted sandstone cliffs, secluded coves and sheltered beaches await discovery.
